WhatsApp wont work on old Nokia, BlackBerry, Android smartphones and iPhone 3GSSmartphones that wont get WhatsApp support from 1.1.2017
Earlier this year, the Facebook-owned messaging app had announced that it will drop support for several mobile operating systems from 2017, including Nokia’s dated Symbian. A popup message now appears to every WhatsApp user on Symbian OS, “Unfortunately, you won’t be able to use WhatsApp after 31/12/2016 because WhatsApp will no longer support your phone.” The company, in a blog post, has clearly stated that by the end of 2016, it will be ending support for WhatsApp Messenger on mobile platforms such as BlackBerry (including BlackBerry 10), Nokia S40, Nokia Symbian S60, Android 2.1 and Android 2.2, Windows Phone 7.1 and iPhone 3GS/iOS 6. It is believed that these outdated operating systems do not offer the kind of capabilities that are needed to expand WhatsApp’s features in the future. To recall, WhatsApp back in February had announced the end of support for Symbian alongside BlackBerry. The messaging service had suggested users to upgrade to a newer Android, iPhone, or Windows Phone before the end of 2016 to continue using WhatsApp. The move from WhatsApp comes in since the market prediction discloses that feature phones will be overtaken by smartphones from 2017 onwards. Since, there would be no more updates and security patches provided by WhatsApp, using the messaging service on older smartphones and feature phones could pose a security threat later. However, in order to make them function, third-party developers would opt for the versions and make changes to it. But, using a third-party or tweaked application is never recommended. If you are using one of the affected mobile devices mentioned above, we suggest you to upgrade to a newer Android, iPhone, or Windows Phone before the end of 2016 to enjoy uninterrupted service of WhatsApp.
