United Airlines spokesperson said that about 3,500 flights were being affected and the the delays could reach 235 domestic and 138 international destinations. “We experienced a network connectivity issue this morning,” United confirmed in a statement after 9 a.m. “We are working to resolve this and apologize to our customers for any inconvenience.” The Federal Aviation Administration specifically blamed the ground stop on “automation issues.” United Airline’s regional carriers however escaped the grounding because they have their own facilities. The computer glitch suffered by United Airlines is not known at present but it has mostly to do with the flight operations rather than ticketing. This is the 2nd such instance where computer glitch has brought an airliner operations to a halt.
