Microsoft made this announcement at the JSConf in Florida today. According to its plan, it will be open sourcing Chakra, the JavaScript engine used in its Edge and Internet Explorer browsers. The code will be published to the Microsoft’s GitHub page next month. Microsoft is open sourcing what it calls ChakraCore. ChakraCore includes the complete JavaScript engine—the parser, the interpreter, the just-in-time compiler, and the garbage collector along with the API used to embed the engine into applications such as Microsoft Edge....

Quantum Dot Spectrometer created by MIT scientists is small enough to fit inside a smartphone camera and it empowers the device to diagnose skin ailments as well as detect environmental pollutants.About the new Quantum Dot spectrometer: Usually, due to its huge size a spectrometer is not portable. However, scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have now developed tiny spectrometer by using minuscule semiconductor nanoparticles called as quantum dots. These Quantum Dot spectrometers are small enough to fit inside the camera of a smartphone....

The smartphone service providers have set some tariffs ceilings for their subscriber. Normally when subscriber is availing the service in their home town the “local tariffs” are applicable however when the subscriber moves from their home town to any other state then the concept of National roaming service gets applicable as the service provider now takes support of other service provider or visited network and hence subscriber is charged more which is termed as “roaming tariff”....

The results of their tests are quite revealing as most AVs were found to be let malware and trojan pass through undetected. According to the tests, 85% of the Windows malware went through unrecognized, and up to 75% of pure Linux malware remained undetected on these free AV solutions. My Preparation Experience To kick start my preparation, I picked up the 6.0 Blueprint because I learnt that the 6.5 exam guide was not as detailed as it should be. Police said that the 27-year-old Riddle lost apparently lost control of the aircraft in an attempt to take pictures of the iconic building on Thursday night. Investigators said Riddle was arrested at the scene and is expected to face criminal charges, which can come with a punishment of up to seven years in prison. He was being questioned by officers at the Midtown South police zone. Riddle tweeted that he was speaking with security after the drone got stuck on the Empire State Building....

Lawsuits During the one year period when Microsoft allowed a free upgrade from Windows 7 & 8 to Windows 10, Microsoft downloaded GBs of data onto user machines that were eligible for the update. This led to many angry Windows users filing lawsuits against the company. In 2016, a consumer rights body in the German state of Baden-Württemberg, took Microsoft to court over these downloads, claiming that the company would download up to 6 GB of files onto machines without user consent....

However, now researchers from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev have discovered a new acoustic data exfiltration method that leverages on a mobile phone positioned in the vicinity of the targeted machine to monitor the computer fans. This version of the data-exfiltration attack against air-gapped computers involves the machine’s fans. The malicious code developed by the researchers can use the device’s fans to exfiltrate data. With this method, it sends out bits of data to the mobile phone or any other computer equipped with a microphone....

Nvidia has added support for both the cards with a new driver release that brings a significant number of features like ReShade Filters, Improved Customizable Image Sharpening, Nvidia Ultra-Low Latency Mode for G-Sync Displays, and Turing Encoder for Gaming and Broadcasting. Christopher Moore, owner of a UK-based security and tech blog, has claimed in a detailed article on his Security and Tech Blog that OnePlus is constantly collecting user data without his knowledge. The data being sent to OnePlus servers included the phone’s IMEI numbers, phone numbers, MAC addresses, IMSI prefix, mobile network names, phone’s serial number, and wireless networks ESSID and BSSID. “Those are timestamp ranges (again, unix epoch in milliseconds) of the when I opened and closed applications on my phone....

The vulnerabilities were discovered by the security researchers at Rapid7. Osram, which sells both Home and Pro products, claims it agreed to test its Lightify products by Rapid7. Similar to the Phillips Hue series, the technology provided by Osram is designed for users to set moods, brightness, and other lighting controls from their apps. Rapid7 research lead, Deral Heiland, who discovered one of the most concerning of the nine vulnerabilities, is a cross-site scripting fault in the web management interface of the Pro product which could allow an attacker to launch browser-based attacks....
